Executive Director
Named one of Nonprofit HR’s “7 Inspiring Nonprofit Women to Watch in 2018,” Sarah Bruno is the Executive Director of the Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN.) As PLEN’s Executive Director, Sarah provides program and administrative oversight to the organization. Prior to PLEN, Sarah consulted with nonprofit organizations to help them improve their operations and fundraising strategies. From 2010 through 2015, Sarah served as the Chief Operating Officer at the Truman National Security Project & Center for National Policy, where she was responsible for the overall day-to-day operations and human resource management of the organization. She previously served as the organization’s Director of Development. Prior to joining the Truman Project, Sarah served as the National Development Director at America Votes and a Development Writer at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. Before coming to Washington D.C., Sarah worked as Development Coordinator at the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A lifelong feminist and long-time advocate for social justice, Sarah holds a Masters degree in macro social work from Boston University and a B.A. in Anthropology with a Women’s Studies concentration from Haverford College. In her free time, Sarah volunteers with various other organizations and political campaigns, and sings with the Congressional Chorus. She grew up in New Hampshire and is a die-hard Red Sox fan. Sarah lives in Washington, D.C., with her dog Dorrie.
