AnneMarie Horowitz

STEM Rising and Department of Energy

AnneMarie Horowitz has been with the Energy Department since 2009, and is the Director of STEM Rising, a priority Departmental initiative to highlight the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs and resources of the agency. AnneMarie also leads the Interagency Women and Girls in STEM Working Group, and manages various communications and events around women and girls in STEM.


AnneMarie founded two employee resource groups: POWER (Professional Opportunities for Women in Energy Realized) and the Young Professionals Group. From November 2015 to January 20, 2017, AnneMarie served as the Special Advisor on workforce issues for the Deputy Secretary of Energy, Dr. Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, and was a designee to the White House Council on Women and Girls. She has also previously worked in the Under Secretary for Management and Performance and the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity. She is currently on detail to the Office of Public Affairs from the Associate Under Secretary for Environment, Health, Safety, and Security.


AnneMarie created the Women @ Energy series, featuring profiles of women from the agency who work in STEM careers. AnneMarie created the STEM Mentoring Café with the Department of Education to host speed mentoring events for middle school girls and federal female STEM mentors. She is responsible for inspiring the FedServe Initiative at the Corporation for National and Community Service and White House Office of Science and Technology Policy to engage federal employees in STEM mentoring, and created the Interagency STEM Volunteer Fair, an annual event to introduce federal employees to volunteer opportunities. Ms. Horowitz was a U.S. delegate to the APEC Women in the Economy Forum in May 2014 in Beijing, China.


AnneMarie has a BA in Political Science from the University of Portland and a Masters of Government from Johns Hopkins University.
