Alexis McKittrick

Institute for Defense Analyses
Environment and Energy Program and Policy Specialist

Alexis McKittrick, Ph.D., works as a research staff member for the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) in Washington, D.C. In this role, she conducts objective, non-partisan research and analysis supporting a variety of tasks for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and various federal agencies. Dr. McKittrick brings a range of environmental and energy expertise to STPI, including experience in corporate research and development (R&D), technical analysis, policy analysis, and government regulations.

Prior to joining STPI, Dr. McKittrick worked for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Change Division, where she focused on greenhouse gas analysis and policy for the oil and gas, chemicals, and semiconductor sectors. She also gained early-career experience working for Praxair Inc., as both an R&D technical lead and an R&D program development manager.  In these roles, she developed or managed technologies focused on energy efficiency or reduction of environmental pollutants in a variety of industrial sectors, including oil refining, chemicals, and steel manufacturing. 

A Society of Women Engineers (SWE) member since 2001, Dr. McKittrick currently serves on the SWE Board of Directors as the Speaker of the SWE Senate. This is her second term on SWE’s board. Earlier in her career, Dr. McKittrick chaired several committees for SWE, including their strategic planning committee and the government relations and public policy committee.

Dr. McKittrick holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she was a Meyerhoff Scholar. She lives in the Northern Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., with her husband and two daughters.
